How much does it cost to get a pilot's license?

Some correct information above, but mostly garbage.

Right now, a Private Certificate will cost you between $6,000 and $9,000, and it is rising every day because of fuel costs. Things will get better after the election. It takes four months to two years, depending on how much time you can devote to it.

Your Commercial Certificate with instrument, multi-engine, and Instructor ratings will cost approx. $15,000 to $25,000.

If you paid for an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (no longer a "rating"), out of your own pocket, you would be down as much as $80,000.

Your employment prospects will be shaky. Better if you go through the military, but the future is not looking really bright for the air transportation industry.

Entry level pilots make like $15/hour or maybe $22,000 if on salary. An overseas captain can still make $150K or more, but those who are starting out now may not ever reach that level.
